A dual-cable zipline at Houw Hoek Hotel. Two parallel cables, so two of you ride alongside each other — one on each line, all the way down. Race your friend, then get back on the road.

Two parallel cables. One rider on each. Filmed from the launch platform, looking down over Houw Hoek Hotel.
The ride
There is no long briefing, no convoy of vehicles, no half a day gone. You park at the hotel, get kitted up, cross the suspension bridge and walk up the path to the start — and then the ground drops away underneath you.
Because there are two parallel cables, you do not go one at a time while everyone else waits. Two riders launch together — one person on each cable, alongside each other — and whoever tucks in tightest gets to the bottom first. Best half hour on the N2.
Kit up
Harness, helmet and a safety check, done by trained operators. Nothing to bring and nothing to figure out.
Cross the bridge, walk up
Over the suspension bridge, then up the path to the start. A short climb, and where the nerves usually arrive.
Race it
Two riders, one on each cable, alongside each other — one long ride down the mountainside with the Overberg opening up in front of you.
Land grinning
Operators bring you in at the bottom and unclip you. Then coffee at the hotel, and back on the road. About 30 minutes, gate to gate.

Who it's for
This is an adventure that is accessible rather than extreme. You do not need to be fit, brave or young — you need about half an hour and a willingness to let go of the platform.
Families
Kids from about 8 up. Two can go alongside each other, one on each cable — so nobody has to fly on their own while the family watches.
Couples & friends
Two cables side by side turns it into a race. Someone always claims they won. Photos to prove otherwise are optional.
Road trippers
Half an hour is the difference between a drive you forget and a drive you talk about. Stretch your legs properly.
Large groups
We run big groups regularly and manage the flow so you're back on the road on time. Contact us beforehand and we'll set it up properly.
Not riding? Still worth stopping.
Houw Hoek Hotel's restaurant and coffee shop are right there, so the rest of your group can order lunch while the brave ones fly. Nobody has to sit in the car.
Safety
Houw Hoek Zipline was designed, built and is operated by Cape Canopy Tour — one of the Western Cape's established zipline operators, running high-altitude cables in the Hottentots Holland mountains since long before this line existed.
Operated in partnership with Houw Hoek Hotel, who look after everything on the ground — parking, restaurant and coffee.
Want the full mountain?
If thirty minutes leaves you wanting more, our sister operation does the long version. Cape Canopy Tour is a half-day, 13-platform canopy tour at 1 000 m in the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve — safari 4x4 up the mountain, a suspension bridge over a double waterfall, the lot.
Different day, different product. Houw Hoek is the stop on the way; Cape Canopy Tour is the reason to set the day aside.
The route
Houw Hoek sits at the point on the N2 where everyone leaving Cape Town has to choose: Hermanus, the Overberg, or the long run to the Garden Route. Whichever way you're going, you drive past our gate. Which is precisely why you should stop at it.
Cape Town
About an hour up the N2. Close enough for a day out, far enough to feel like you left.
Hermanus & the coast
Straight down the R43 from Bot River. Fly before the whales, or after.
Overberg & Caledon
The gateway to the wheatlands. Break the drive properly instead of at a fuel station.
Garden Route
First real stop out of the city on a long haul east. Get the blood moving early.
Also good if you're in the Elgin Valley
Grabouw, Elgin and the apple-and-wine belt are on our doorstep. If you're doing a day of tasting rooms, farm stalls and orchards, half an hour on a zipline is the part the kids will actually remember.
Gallery
No stock photos. All of this is our cable, our mountain and our guests.
Our home on the N2
The zipline lives on the grounds of Houw Hoek Hotel, a landmark property at the gateway to the Overberg. There is a restaurant, a coffee shop, lawns to sit on and plenty of parking — so a half-hour zipline can easily turn into a proper couple of hours.

About 30 minutes from arrival to departure — that's the whole visit, not the ride itself. It covers getting kitted up, crossing the suspension bridge, the walk up the path to the start, the ride down and unclipping at the bottom.
Yes — that's the whole point. There are two parallel cables, so two riders go alongside each other, one person on each cable. You're not attached to one another; you each ride your own line, side by side.
We can generally accommodate children from about age 8. Every rider slides on their own — we don't do tandem rides with a guide. If you're unsure whether your child will fit, come and chat to us and try a harness on before you commit, or call 028 284 9646.
They can wait in comfort. Houw Hoek Hotel has a restaurant and coffee shop on site, so non-riders can sit down with a coffee or lunch while the rest of the group flies.
The zipline was designed and is operated by Cape Canopy Tour, an established Western Cape zipline operator. Harness fitting, cable attachment, launch and landing are all handled by trained operators, and equipment is maintained to documented safety protocols.
Yes. We run large groups regularly and manage the timing so everyone rides and you're back on the road in a reasonable time. Please contact us before your visit on 028 284 9646 or adventure@houwhoekzipline.co.za so we can plan a seamless experience. Fully commissionable to the trade, with no fixed time slot to build an itinerary around.
We ride in most conditions, including light rain. Operations pause for lightning or strong wind. If in doubt on the day, call us on 028 284 9646 before you drive out.
Whatever you're already driving in, as long as it's comfortable. Closed shoes are best. Leave loose items in the car — we'll fit the harness and helmet over the top.
